Subtext

第一条的草稿结尾是“please don't hate me, i promise we'll do whatever you want next time”(大意:请别讨厌我,我保证下次都听你的);Subtext 把它标为“Validation seeking”和“Overpromise”,给出的第一个版本是“Heyy, I'm so sorry, but I don't think I can make it tonight after all. I know I said I'd come and I feel bad about it. Can we find another time soon? I'd love to make it up to you.”(大意:嘿,真的很抱歉,我想今晚还是去不了了。

so i saw your text about the trip and honestly i'm kind of hurt you booked it without even asking me first? like were you even going to tell me

Guilt-tripping

Accusing tone
"without even asking me first?" frames it as their fault before they can explain.
Hurt
You feel left out because the trip was booked without asking you first.

That sounds really hurtful, feeling left out of a plan that includes you. Here are some ways to say it that keep your feelings in and invite a real conversation.

I'm such an idiot, I completely forgot your birthday. I'm the worst friend, I don't know why you put up with me.

Subtext

Self-deprecation

Validation seeking
"I don't know why you put up with me" invites reassurance rather than simply apologizing.
Remorse
You feel guilty about forgetting the birthday and are being hard on yourself.

Forgetting a birthday feels awful, and it's clear you care. Here are some ways to say sorry without beating yourself up.

wow ok. good to know where i stand with you i guess. must be nice to just forget about people whenever something better comes along

Subtext

Sarcasm
"good to know where i stand with you i guess" and "must be nice" read as mocking rather than showing the hurt underneath.
Guilt-tripping
"forget about people whenever something better comes along" accuses them and may make them defensive.
Hurt
You sound hurt and left behind, like you feel forgotten.

That sounds like it really stung, Samet. Feeling forgotten hurts, so here are a few ways to say it that let the hurt come through without starting a fight.

    Hurt
The draft names the hurt directly and calmly.
    safe to send

  2. Warm and open

That one hurt a little, I won't pretend it didn't. I've been feeling a bit left out lately and it would mean a lot to hear where your head is at.

    Vulnerability
The draft opens up honestly and invites connection.
    safe to send
It owns the feeling and invites a conversation without blaming, which makes a warm answer more likely.

  3. Best-landing rewrite

Hey, I'll be straight with you. I felt pretty hurt by that, and I reacted a bit sharply at first. You matter to me, and lately I've felt like I'm slipping down your list. Can we talk about it? I'd rather understand what's going on than guess.

    Openness
The draft is honest, caring and asks for a conversation.
    safe to send
It admits the sharp first reaction, says you value them, and asks to talk, so it should land as caring rather than accusing.

hey sorry to bug you again!! i know you're super busy but did you maybe get a chance to look at the invoice i sent last week? no rush at all seriously whenever is fine

Subtext

Over-apologizing
"sorry to bug you again!!" and "I know you're super busy" put you in a small position for a normal request.
Mixed messages
"no rush at all seriously whenever is fine" undercuts the follow-up, so the reader may not know you actually need an answer.
Excess exclamation
The double exclamation marks add nervous energy.
Apprehension
You sound nervous about nudging again and want to avoid seeming pushy.

Following up can feel awkward, but it's completely reasonable. Here are a few versions that stay friendly without apologizing so much.

  1. Close to yours

Hey, just following up on the invoice I sent last week. Did you get a chance to look at it? Thanks so much.

    Friendly
    Warm and direct without pressure.
    safe to send
It keeps your friendly tone, drops the apologies, and asks one clear question. Should land well.

  2. Warm and easy

Hey, hope your week is going well. I wanted to check in on the invoice I sent last week. Have you had a chance to look at it? Happy to resend it if that's easier.

    Considerate
    Gentle and helpful.
    safe to send
The offer to resend makes replying easy, and the tone stays light and courteous.

  3. Clear and confident

Hi, a quick check-in on the invoice I sent last week. Could you let me know if it's been received and when I can expect it to be processed? Thanks a lot.

    Confident
    Calm, clear and professional.
    safe to send
It asks for confirmation and a timeline politely, so the reader knows what you need.

look i really need u to stop sending voice msgs without any text... it freaks me out and u know that but u keep doing it anyway?!!

02

输入框里只写着“Write or ask me to...”(大意:直接写,或者吩咐我做点什么)。

What should your reply get across most?

04

Make it warmer and add empathy if necessary.

Make it shorter without switching the language of the message.

Sound more natural

Add one good joke that makes the reader smile. Make it about something in this message, not one that would fit any message, and phrase it the way a witty native speaker would. Keep it kind and suited to the tone of the message, never at the other person's expense. Don't add a promise or a fact I didn't write.

Make it sound confident (but keep it empathetic if possible).

05

Subtext 草稿

You didn't do anything wrong. I just find it easier with a little text. I still love your voice messages, promise.

We're completely fine. It's a small thing that just helps my head. Nothing more than that.

All good. A quick line of text is all I meant. We're good.
